Some elementary schools have stopped giving homework to young children. They say that children learn more through play, reading for fun, and time with their families. Others believe that homework teaches responsibility and gives children extra practice with what they learned in class. Should elementary schools give homework to their students? Why or why not?

I don't think they should. Young children already spend six or seven hours a day at school. After that, they need time to play outside and relax. Homework often just causes stress for children and arguments with their parents.

I disagree. A small amount of homework, maybe twenty minutes a day, helps children build good study habits early. If they never have homework, it will be much harder for them to get used to it in middle school.
