Write for an Academic Discussion

Your professor is teaching a class on urban ecology. Write a post responding to the professor's question. Express and support your opinion and contribute to the discussion in your own words. An effective response has at least 100 words.

Dr. Helena Fitzgerald
Several cities have begun cutting the grass in their parks far less often, so that wild flowers and the insects that depend on them can establish themselves. Residents complain that the parks look neglected. Should a city accept an untidy park for the sake of what grows in it? Give your view and explain it.

Mateus
Yes, and the complaints will fade. What people object to is not long grass but the impression that nobody is in charge. A mown strip along the paths and a sign explaining what is happening changes the impression without changing the meadow.

Yuki
I am less sure. A park is not only habitat; it is where people sit, and long grass with ticks and thistles in it is not somewhere a family will spread a blanket. If the result is that fewer people use the park, the city has traded one public good for another rather than gaining one.
