In some countries, restaurant customers are expected to leave a tip of fifteen to twenty percent, and servers depend on tips for much of their income. In other countries, tipping is rare because service is included in the price. Some restaurants are now ending tipping and raising menu prices so that they can pay their staff higher wages. Do you think restaurants should replace tipping with higher wages? Why or why not?

Yes. Servers shouldn't have to worry about whether they'll earn enough to pay rent each month. A fixed wage would give them a stable income, and customers wouldn't have to calculate tips.

I disagree. Tips encourage servers to do their best. If they get the same pay no matter what, service will probably get worse. Also, good servers often earn more from tips than they would from a fixed wage.
