In some countries, restaurants are required by law to show the number of calories next to each item on their menus. Supporters say this helps people make healthier choices. Others argue that it costs restaurants money and may not change what people actually eat. Should restaurants be required to show calorie information on their menus? Why or why not?

Yes. Most people have no idea how many calories are in restaurant food. When I saw that my usual pasta dish had almost twice as many calories as a salad, I started choosing differently. People deserve to know.

I don't think it should be a law. Small family restaurants change their menus often, and testing every dish is expensive. Also, focusing only on calories can be misleading, because a healthy meal isn't just about calories.
