Some high schools now require students to complete an internship or work placement before they graduate. Supporters say this helps students choose a career and learn skills such as responsibility and teamwork. Others think high school students should focus on their academic studies. Should high schools require students to complete an internship? Why or why not?

Yes. I did a two-week placement at a hospital, and it completely changed my plans. I realized I wanted to study nursing. Without that experience, I would have chosen a major I wasn't really interested in.

I don't think it should be required. Many students already have part-time jobs or care for younger siblings. Also, students in small towns may not have access to good internships, so the requirement wouldn't be fair.
