Your professor is teaching a class on sport and the university. Write a post responding to the professor's question. Express and support your opinion and contribute to the discussion in your own words. An effective response has at least 100 words.

Universities have a fixed budget for sport and two ways of spending it: on teams that compete against other institutions, or on facilities and classes open to anyone enrolled. Most spend far more on the first. If you had to shift the balance one way or the other, which way would you move it, and what is the argument?
Mateo
Move it toward the teams. A university is not only a set of services for individuals; it is an institution that people feel part of, and almost nothing builds that feeling like a side that represents you. The teams also reach beyond the people who play. Thousands watch, the results are in the local paper, and students who arrive knowing nothing about each other have something in common by October.

The feeling is real and it is bought from the wrong people. A competitive program spends most of its money on a few dozen athletes who were already fit and already playing. Spend the same amount on longer pool hours, cheap classes and equipment that can be borrowed, and you reach the students who do no exercise at all, which is the group whose health and whose results actually change.
