From next week I will look at notebooks during the session rather than collecting them at the end of the term. This is not extra work for you. It is the same notebook, and I will spend about two minutes at your bench while you are waiting for something to spin or settle. I am changing the timing because a notebook I read in June tells me only whether you can write one up. A notebook I read on the day tells me whether you wrote down the reading you actually took, which is the habit the module is supposed to build. Write in it during the practical, not afterward from memory. If something went wrong, that is the most interesting line on the page and I would rather see it than a clean sheet.
25. What does the writer imply about a notebook with nothing recorded as having gone wrong?
