The city of Millbrook has installed new traffic signals at six busy crosswalks downtown. The signals use sensors to detect people who are still in the street, and they keep the light red for cars until everyone has finished crossing. “Older residents told us they often felt rushed,” said city engineer Laura Mendes. “This gives everyone enough time to cross safely.” If the new signals work well, the city plans to add them to twenty more crosswalks next year.
