Subject: Group work: what I am changing and what I am not
Dear all, The group project stays. I have read the feedback and I know that most of the complaints are about one thing, which is carrying people who do not turn up. So from this term each group keeps a one-line record of who did what, agreed at the end of every meeting and visible to all of you. It is not a report to me and I will not read it unless somebody asks me to. Its purpose is to make the conversation happen in week three rather than in week nine, when nothing can be done. What I am not doing is letting groups expel members. That decision belongs to me, and I have made it twice in six years. Groups are posted on Friday. They are drawn at random and I will not swap anyone. Tolu Okafor
